Re-cycle your Pumpkin

West Oxfordshire District Council is calling on residents to recycle their pumpkins once Halloween is over. They can be cut up and placed in the food waste bin to be picked up as part of the usual weekly collection.

According to the ‘Love Food, Hate Waste’ campaign, it’s estimated that more than a million pumpkins are bought in the run up to Halloween in the UK. To help reduce waste, residents may wish to use their pumpkins for cooking. For recipe ideas see the Love Food, Hate waste website.

Last year, with the help of residents, the District Council collected almost 3,500 tonnes of food waste in West Oxfordshire which was taken to the processing plant near Cassington to be recycled into electricity and fertiliser.
